After School Program
The ONE to ONE Challenge is an opportunity to improve the educational outcomes of the children in the Kansas City community. As tutors in this effort, we are asking for ONE hour, ONE day a week to work with 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade students ONE on ONE in reading. You can participate in this effort through either tutoring or mentoring.
After School Tutoring will go through the school year from August 27th through May 24th. Volunteers can sign up to become a tutor at any point in time during the school year. Volunteering is from about 4:15pm – 6pm, Monday - Thursday. Below is more information about tutoring and mentoring opportunities. If you have any questions, contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Mallory Gobet at mallory.upperrroom@gmail.com.
- WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A TUTOR? Tutoring simply means reading with our kids. A tutor will most likely work with different students from week to week on the student’s reading skills. It is recommended that you come as consistently as you can, but tutoring is a flexible option. Every so often you might be asked to help with homework, but generally for 1st – 3rd grade students so it shouldn’t be too difficult. (If you have a desire to work with older students on homework help, math, reading, etc., please contact Mallory Gobet at mallory.upperroom@gmail.com).
If you are over 18 years of age, you must fill out a Background Check. Download the form HERE.
