Pre-Testing Summer 2012 - Dates and Locations

Pre-testing this year for the Swope Summer Academic Camp will be from Monday, May 14th thru Friday May 18th from 4p.m. until 6p.m., and on Saturday May 19th from 9a.m until 1p.m. Your child may be brought in for testing on one of the days listed above, anytime between the hours listed above.

Your child(ren)’s testing location is Calvary Temple Church, 5607 St. John Avenue, if your child is enrolled at the following locations:

Centennial United Methodist Church
Don Bosco Center
New Life Church
Paseo Baptist Church
Police Athletic League (PAL Center)
St. Paul’s
St. Stephen’s Church

Your child(ren)’s testing location is Covenant Presbyterian Church, 5931 Swope Parkway, if your child is enrolled at the following locations:

“Story City” in the News

Students from UMKC Intro to Fiction class partnered with the Upper Room in a service-learning activity. Each week, students from UMKC came to the Upper Room and assisted the students in a story writing activity, as a group. The project, titled “Story City,” ended up on the front page of The Call newspaper. To read the full article, click here.

Volunteer this summer!

One reason that the Upper Room’s Summer Program is so successful is due to the help of our volunteer tutors. They play a crucial role in helping our children improve their reading skills and their confidence in reading. It is simple for anyone to participate, and is truly a rewarding experience.

Summer tutoring will begin June 11th and end August 3rd. Tutoring will be available Monday – Friday, from 8 am until 11:30 am each day. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for all 8 weeks, or for just one week! We would appreciate any amount of time our volunteers are willing and able to give. Books for Summer!

Our goal for the Summer Reading Program 2012 is to have 2,000 books donated to the Upper Room! If you are interested in hosting a book drive, or curious about donations, please contact Mallory Dahmer at 816-363-3819.

We also could use some help with labeling our books for the summer program! If you would be interested in volunteer hours, or coming with a group of friends, youth group, etc., please notify Mallory Dahmer at mallory.upperroom@gmail.com. We would truly appreciate the help.
