Our staff is made up of almost 400 individuals from the community. The majority of our employees are teachers and youth counselors who work with our students. Below is a list of our administrative staff.
Julie Whitney, Lead Teacher for GED
Lee Barnes, Director of Operations
Mr. Barnes has owned and operated several businesses as the President of Barnes Creative Holdings Inc. As an entrepreneur and businessman, Lee brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to the full operations of business, including: marketing, service, operations, purchasing and finance. Mr. Barnes has received a Bachelor’s in Industrial Engineering and has done graduate work in Business Management and Economics. Additionally, Lee has served four years as a member of the Kansas City Missouri School Board and has served as a Commissioner on the Tax Increment Finance Commission. This experience has deepened his knowledge of public policy, community service and governance.

Vickie Hancock, Program Manager
Vickie was born and raised in Kansas City where she graduated from Paseo High School as a member of the National Honor Society, Distributive Education Clubs of America, Incorporated (DECA), Varsity Volleyball Team, and recognized as Athlete with the Highest Scholastic GPA. Vickie enjoys learning and understands the value of education and considers her self a life long student. Since graduating high school, she has earned an Associate in Applied Science in Computer Programming from Penn Valley Community College, a Bachelors’ of Business Management from Western Governors University, and Masters of Science in Project Management from George Washington University. Vickie worked for Sprint for nearly 20 years were she held numerous administrative, technical, leadership and management positions. In 2004, she left Sprint to pursue her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. She and her husband Terrence now own a retail store Kansas City. They have 4 children and currently reside in Lee’s Summit, Mo. For the past 6 years, Vickie has been actively giving back to society by substitute teaching 2nd – 3rd grades students at a Christian School in Grandview, Mo., and most recently taking on the role of Program Manager for Swope Corridor Renaissance/Upper Room, Inc., for the After School and Summer School Programs.
Mallory Gobet, Volunteer Coordinator
Originally from Lee’s Summit, Mallory went to Lee’s Summit West High School, and then continued her education at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri. There she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. While in college, Mallory was the co-president of Campus Crusade for Christ for 2 years. After graduating, she had a desire and passion to work in education. Mallory has been working with the Upper Room, Inc., since October of 2011. Recently, Mallory married her husband, Ryan, and they now reside in Mission, KS.
